So once again the Ruger was back in my Holster, but now as one of my favorite guns that's stood the test of time for reliability, ease of use, and yes, even accuracy. Fun disassembly story- Never try to take the recoil spring plug out of a without capturing it with your thumb. Then, disassemble the radar gun, build it, prep the waveguide, wire it, fix the LCD display mount, assemble it, and finish it up. I had my Ruger P89 refinished and I disassembled the pistol and replaced all of the springs as well.

Most difficult pistols to field strip/reassemble - Topic
Tweet this thread Share on Facebook Reddit! Long story short - I think the problem was an incorrectly installed recoil spring. We had the same problem of not being able to get the slide off to field strip it. Since then it hasn't been bad at all to disassemble. After a couple of years of occasionally trying to get it apart, he finally set down one evening, found some videos, and worked on it until it came apart. Results 1 to 10 of
With the two Ruger pistols I have, re-assembly is the hard part. It was the first thing I checked and lo and behold that was it. I'm just at a loss as to what it could be, especially considering it was fine at one cleaning and screwed up at the next. My theory is that the larger diameter end of the recoil spring was actually slipping over the collar and binding in the frame's guide rod channel. I've never had a guide rod break so I'm not sure what the symptoms are.
